You are a badass. Yes, you are.
You are way more qualified than you think you are. You are way more experienced than you think you are. You have accomplished a hell of a lot more than you think you have.
How do I know this?
I know because I made a big announcement last week. As preparation, I spent several hours updating my online presence and generally figuring out how to tell the story of my career progression from marketeer to leadership coach. I had the opportunity to comb through all my past accomplishments and see how they led me to where I am now. And I learned that I am a badass.
I am way more qualified than I thought I was. I am way more experienced than I thought I was. I have accomplished a hell of a lot more than I thought I had. I have had a much bigger impact on my places of work than I’d ever recognized before.
I’m not saying this to brag. My point is that I didn’t know how powerful I was until last week. And if I--someone who does this for a living--didn’t realize this about myself, I’m guessing that you don’t know how much of a badass you are, either.
Few of us make a habit of regularly reflecting on every past role, every success, every difference made in our work (maybe we should). But I encourage you to give it a try this week.
Write down 2 or 3 things you’ve done well. Keep a daily acknowledgements list for a week and see how your self-image changes. Reflect on your career trajectory and pat yourself on the back for making it this far.
Because you are a badass, and you deserve to know how powerful you are.
